This past weekend (February 27 - March 1) was the annual LDS Film Festival. Jane and Emma was the opening night film, which was exciting. In addtion to Jane and Emma, our producer Jenn Lee Smith had two shorts in the festival so she flew out to participate. I was invited to sit on a panel discussing the current state of LDS cinema. Director Chantelle Squires did a presentation on inclusion and representation on film, and then invited myself, Jenn, and producer Madeline Jorgensen to join her answering questions about our film. It was pretty cool to sit on a panel with three other women that I admire to talk about something good we did together. Smart women, women of color, artists looking to change the world. No big deal. I was able to meet some filmmakers and distributors as well as members of the media; considering how not great I am at meeting people and networking, it was a pretty good experience overall.
The icing on the cake was Saturday night, when Jane and Emma won the jury-selected Best Feature Film award as well as the Audience award.
